OUR BACKGROUND

Faculty of Mechanical Engineering Technology (FTKM) was established after the merger of several departments (formerly known as School of Mechanical Engineering, School of Manufacturing Engineering, and Faculty of Engineering Technology) as a result of the university restructuring for schools to become a faculty. The new restructuring was approved at the 70th University Board of Directors (LPU) Meeting No. 1/2020 on 26 February 2020 effective on 2 March 2020.

The restructuring also involves the merger and rebranding of Schools / Faculties to the Faculty. Restructuring also involves the transfer / exchange of staff to the new departments (faculty) starting on 15 September 2020 and subsequently the appointment of a new faculty Exco members until 3 June 2022.

FTKM now offers a four-year academic programme in various fields of Mechanical Engineering, which upon completion, the University awards the Degree of Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with Honours. The complete list of undergraduate programmes offered by the school is as follows:

  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering with Honours
  • Bachelor of Manufacturing Engineering with Honours
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Technology (Machining) with Honours
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Technology (Agriculture System) with Honours
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Technology (Product Design) with Honours
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Engineering Technology (Material Processing) with Honours
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Technology (Industrial Machining) with Honours
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Technology (Automotive) with Honours
  • Bachelor of Mechanical Technology (Welding) with Honours
  • Bachelor of Agricultural Engineering with Honours
  • Diploma of Manufacturing Engineering

All undergraduate programmes are taught, full time programmes. English is the main medium of instruction and Bahasa Melayu is also used in some courses. The aim of the programmes is to produce graduates who possess not only theoretical technical knowledge but also equipped with skills that are important to ensure their successful participation in the engineering community. Hence, the structures of the curricula are designed to deliver these important knowledge and skills.

Apart from the undergraduate programmes, the faculty also offers postgraduate programmes Doctor of Philosophy (PhD), Master of Science (MSc.) and Master of Science (Manufacturing Systems Engineering) by Mixed Mode.  Master of Science (Mechanical Engineering) by Coursework will be offered in Oct 2022.  Research areas for research mode programmes are Manufacturing Engineering, Mechanical Engineering dan Product Design Engineering.
